A Look at the Do’s& Don’ts After Botox Injections

Considering Botox? Read this to get the best results…

If you are having Botox injections done, especially for the first time, it is important to listen to the directions given to you by the med spa or doctor’s office.

Understanding Botox aftercare and how to treat your skin, post-injection being knowledgeable about what you’re injecting.

What is Botox?

Botox is created and derived from a toxin that is naturally produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The reaction is a temporary paralysis of the affected muscle. It is used to smooth facial wrinkles, treat neck spasms, quell excessive sweating, migraines, and more.

Ensuring the Best Possible Results

There are some definite do’s and don’ts following your injection to ensure its success and prevent the migration of liquid.

The Golden Hours: Why Post-Botox Care is Crucial

Think of those initial hours post-Botox as the prime time to set the stage for your skin’s transformation. During this period, it’s best to avoid lying down or bending over for at least four hours. Why? Well, gravity is not on your side here; it can actually affect how the Botox spreads and settles into your facial muscles. Keep your head in the game and upright for optimal results.

Exercise? DON’T:

We get it—staying active is part of that radiant Florida lifestyle. However, intensive workouts are a strict no-no for at least 24 hours post-injection. Breaking a sweat can increase circulation, which might seem healthy, but it could also hasten the disappearance of your Botox’s effects. Consider this an excuse to take a well-deserved break and bask in some light reading or leisurely beach walks instead.

Massage? DON’T: Get a massage within 24 hours. Much like exercise it can spread the Botox to areas that were not meant for treatment.

Facial? DON’T: Get a facial within 24 hours. As a rule, any service using dermabrasion, radio frequency, microdermabrasion, or laser could cause unwanted spreading.

Steam room? DON’T: Use a Steam room or Sauna for 24 hrs. Excess heat can increase circulation in the face and cause the filler to dissipate.

Bending Over? DON’T: Bend down. If you need to pick something up, squat down with your head upright.

Accessories? DON’T: Wear sunglasses or hats for 4 hours post-treatment. You may end up denting your face.

NSAIDs and Vitamins? DON’T: For 48 hours post-injection stop all aspirin, ibuprofen, Vitamin E, and Fish Oil as they may increase chances of bruising.

So – What Should You Do?

DO: Wait on laying down. A minimum of 4 hours is ideal, longer is even better. Avoid laying flat and try not to lay on your face.

DO: Take Arnica to help with any swelling or bruising. Ice is also great for reducing inflammation.
