Age, environmental factors, stress, diet, and lifestyle can wreak havoc on our skin. You may be beginning to notice sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, scars, acne, or age spots. All of these can detract from the face we wish to put forward.
Thanks to modern advancements in esthetics micro-needling has become one mainstream technique that is producing amazingly positive results for our clients.
What is Micro-needling?
Microneedling treats the top layer of the skin by using ultra-fine needles to puncture tiny holes in the surface. The damage stimulates the skin’s healing process, which results in the production of more collagen and elastin being fed to the surface of the skin. These proteins keep your appearance smooth and firm.
Although microneedling is commonly used on the face, it can also be performed on the legs, neck, and other areas where one’s skin is aging or damaged.
Conditions Microneedling IS suggested for include
· Fine lines · Wrinkles · Loose skin · Crepe skin · Mild scarring (acne or burns) · Uneven skin tone · Skin discoloration · Stretch marks · Enlarged pores
Conditions where microneedling would NOT be appropriate include:
· You are actively taking or using certain acne medications
· You have a blood or bleeding disorder or take anticoagulants
· You are receiving chemotherapy or radiation
· You experience frequent cold sores, rashes, or contact dermatitis
· Your skin forms keloids
· Not recommended for areas with moles, skin tags, or other growths as it cannot correct them
· Not appropriate for areas of eczema or psoriasis
The Microneedling Experience
Once you are seated comfortably in the chair at the Eurospa Salon in Naples, Florida your esthetician will cleanse your skin and apply a numbing cream. This will be allowed to set for 30 minutes or so while you relax.
Your spa technician will then use a hand-held roller or electric tool to make micro punctures on your skin to be treated. The tiny needles are attached to the roller and gently roll across your skin. If they use the electric tool, the needles will pulse up and down and puncture your skin. The length of the needles can be changed by the provider. If you have acne scarring or pockmarks, the longer needles might go deeper into your skin. As you have been numbed this will be a painless experience.
You might feel a slight warmth or a mild scratching sensation on your face once the microneedling session begins. Some people feel discomfort if the needles are near bony areas, such as cheekbones. Deep microneedling may cause slight blood seepage.
Depending on the size of the area being treated, the procedure can take anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of hours.
After the Procedure
Your skin may be a little red and the swelling can last for up to five days. Ice packs can help reduce irritation and discomfort. Most people can wear makeup the day after the procedure, but you should stay out of the sun until your skin heals.
In the days and weeks after, you might notice that your skin feels tight. Applying a light moisturizer should help.
The Results!
Many clients see an immediate improvement in skin texture after just one session. For tougher cases, some may need more than one session. Sessions should be performed 3 to 8 weeks apart so that your skin has ample time to fully heal. It can take 3 to 6 months to see final results.
Once a year maintenance is suggested for the very best ongoing results.
